The "My Family" craft is perfect for little ones who love colouring and would like to present their family in a special way. It has a deeply personal character — and that is exactly what makes it so unique! A craft that combines creativity, emotional expression, and learning through play.
What You'll Need
- Printed house template (below) on paper thicker than standard A4
- Scissors (children's, with rounded tips)
- Glue
- A family photo (optional)
- Markers or coloured pencils (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 — Print and cut Print the black-and-white or colour design on paper thicker than standard A4 for a better result. Cut out the house following the outline. You can help your little one if they are not yet very confident with scissors.
Step 2 — Colour in (optional) If you chose the black-and-white design, your child will love colouring in the house with markers or coloured pencils — walls, windows, door, roof tiles and all!
Step 3 — Fold the house Fold the house as shown in the picture and glue the roof (the tiles) to give the little house its shape.
Step 4 — Add the family Use the inside to glue a family photo into the card. Alternatively, encourage the child to draw their family inside the house — with all the members, pets, and anything else they wish!
Step 5 — Display it! This makes a wonderful decoration for the child's bedroom — and a lovely conversation starter about family!
Educational Benefits
Creative expression and imagination: Every child creates a completely personal piece of work — their own house with their own family. No two results are ever the same!
Fine motor skills: Colouring, cutting, folding, and gluing — four different motor skills in one activity. Excellent preparation for writing.
Hand-eye coordination: Every step of the construction exercises visual-motor coordination — from colouring right through to folding and gluing.
Language development: Talking about the family during the craft enriches vocabulary and encourages narrative speech — "this is Daddy, this is Grandma..."
Emotional intelligence and self-awareness: Engaging with the concept of family helps children understand the relationships and feelings that define it — love, security, and belonging.
Confidence: A craft with such a strong personal character builds self-esteem — the child feels proud of their creation and loves to show it off!
