It's raining — but these little clouds bring nothing but joy! A simple and cheerful craft that teaches children about the water cycle, the seasons, and the weather — while they create a wonderful decoration for their bedroom or classroom. Perfect for autumn and winter days!
What You'll Need
- Blue card for the sky
- Scissors (children's, with rounded tips)
- Cotton buds
- Glue
- Cotton wool
- Optional: glitter for sparkling drops
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 — Cut the Raindrops Cut the raindrops from the cotton buds.
Step 2 — Glue on the Cotton Wool With the child's help, shape the clouds from cotton wool on the blue card.
Step 3 — Stick on the Raindrops Take the cotton bud raindrops and glue them one by one beneath the clouds.
Variations & Ideas You can also replace the raindrops with glitter drops, or use blue ribbons for a more flowing rain effect.
A craft that's a perfect springboard for talking about the sky, clouds, rain, sunshine, snow, and all kinds of weather phenomena. With this craft you can also discuss the water cycle: where do we find water? (in lakes, rivers, and the sea); how does it evaporate and rise into the sky? (it becomes tiny, tiny little droplets); how does it turn into clouds, and clouds into rain? how does it fall back down to earth and water it? (as rain, hail, or snow).
This activity gives your little ones the chance to play with the texture of cotton wool and practise using glue, while creating a wonderful decoration for their room!
