The easiest craft for children? It has to be the Wicked Witch!
This activity will help your little creators not only practise their cutting and colouring skills — for those who choose the blank outlines — but will also teach them the basic shapes (triangle, square, rectangle, circle) in an easy and wonderfully enjoyable way!
What You'll Need
- Printed template (ready to download below)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers or coloured pencils (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 — Print and colour (optional) Print the ready-made colour template — or the black-and-white version to encourage your little ones to colour the pieces in their own colour choices!
Step 2 — Cut out the shapes Help your little ones cut out the pieces. A great opportunity to talk about the shapes as you cut — "this is a triangle, this is a circle!"
Step 3 — Glue the witch together Glue the pieces onto a light-coloured sheet of paper, roughly following the picture. Perfection isn't needed — every witch has her own unique character!
Step 4 — Display it! The Wicked Witch is ready to decorate a wall, door or window — a wonderful Halloween decoration made by the children themselves!
Educational Benefits
Recognising geometric shapes: A triangle for the hat, a circle for the face, a rectangle for the body — children learn the basic shapes through the making process in the most natural and enjoyable way!
Fine motor skills: Cutting, gluing and colouring exercise the small muscles of the hands — excellent preparation for writing.
Creative expression: Freedom to choose colours and place the shapes however they like makes every witch unique — no two results are ever the same!
Confidence: The simplicity of this craft ensures that every child succeeds — and the pride they feel in their creation is priceless.
Festive atmosphere: The wicked witch is a beloved Halloween character that fills children with excitement, humour and imagination!
