The ladybug is one of spring's most beloved insects — and not just in spring! It's also one of the easiest and most cheerful crafts for preschool-aged children! With just a few simple materials and our free printable template, you and your child can create an adorable paper ladybug in just a few minutes.

What You'll Need

  • Printed ladybug template (free download below)
  • Child-safe scissors (rounded tip)
  • Glue
  • Toilet paper roll
  • Markers or coloured pencils (if printing the black & white template)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 — Print the template Download and print our free ladybug template. You can print it in colour, or print on white paper and colour it in afterwards.

Step 2 — Cut out the pieces Follow the template lines and carefully cut out the body, wings and head of the ladybug. Little ones can easily cut the black piece of the craft, which is the same width as the toilet paper roll. Help them wrap the black piece of paper around the roll and secure it with glue. Cut out the two small antennae and glue them to the front, tucked inside the top of the roll. The red semicircular pieces with black spots are the wings. Help your little one cut out the wings and glue them to the front — like a pizza missing a slice! For younger children, an adult can help with the cutting.

Step 3 — Assemble Glue all the pieces together following the guide. Your ladybug is ready to fly!
