What if we could decorate the whole Christmas tree with crafts made by the children! It would be the most beautiful Christmas tree!

This craft is a wonderful ornament that will delight young and old alike — and best of all, you'll only need recyclable straws, scissors, glue and a piece of thin string (or even a rubber band) to hang it up.

A Christmas tree made by the children themselves — and that's exactly what makes it so special! With simple straws and a little glue, your little ones create their very own festive decoration to decorate however they wish.

A fun, festive and easy activity — perfect for preschool age!

What You'll Need

  • Straws (colourful)
  • Glue
  • Scissors (children's, with rounded tips)
  • Yellow paper or a star sticker for the top
  • Colourful stickers for decorations (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 — Prepare the straws Cut the green straws into different lengths: one long piece for the base, and gradually shorter ones as you move towards the top. You can help your little ones with this step!

Step 2 — Build the tree Place the straws in a triangle shape — the longest at the bottom, the shortest at the top. Glue them down one by one, starting from the base.

Step 3 — Add the trunk Cut a small piece of brown or beige straw and glue it beneath the base of the tree to create the trunk.

Step 4 — Decorate! Time for the fun part! Stick on stickers, draw with markers, or glue small pieces of colourful straws as ornaments. A little yellow star at the top is the perfect finishing touch!

Step 5 — Display it! Your little tree is ready to decorate the home or classroom — a wonderful festive creation made by the children themselves!

Educational Benefits

Fine motor skills: Cutting, placing and gluing the straws exercises the small muscles of the hands — excellent preparation for writing.

Mathematical concepts: Understanding size, comparing lengths and creating a sequence — geometry is hiding inside the play!

Hand-eye coordination: Placing the straws in the correct position develops visual-motor coordination.

Creative expression: Every child decorates their tree in their own unique way — no two results are ever the same!

Festive atmosphere and emotional development: Festive activities create positive emotions, nurture the joy of making and build cherished family moments.

The straw Christmas tree is a wonderful way to spend a happy afternoon with your little ones and decorate your tree this year with their very own creations!
